The 64-year-old coach has agreed to sever ties with the Porcupine Warriors outfit after a tumultuous relationship with the club’s top hierarchy
Asante Kotoko head coach Mariano Baretto is set to leave the club by mutual consent after just six months at the helm of the club, AshesGyamera.com can exclusively report.
The news came following the all-important board meeting on Thursday at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi despite the Portuguese tactician guiding the Porcupine Warriors to a second-placed finish in the Ghana Premier League and reaching the quarterfinals of the FA Cup last season.
Baretto after an incredible start to his short stay in Ghana, is known to have a frosty relationship with Kotoko chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah and reportedly blocked the latter’s phone calls and messages before he left the country.
The Portuguese coach, who once upon a time was in charge of Ghana, gave an interview to Nhyira FM last month, claiming he was surprised that Kotoko lacked basic infrastructures that make a club big.
He added that he did not have an office to work from and never set foot at the club’s secretariat. He later revealed that players and officials at the club had to ease themselves in the bush during training session since there are no toilet facilities at the Adako Jachie training ground.
These comments, together with Kotoko failing to win a trophy and qualify to play in Caf inter-club competitions after the season, made a section of the supporters called Kotoko Ultras to officially make their displeasure known about his continuous association with the club.
AshesGyamera understands that the board agreed to pay off Baretto in order to be able to appoint a new manager in the coming days.
