The Phobians skipper has been called upon to join the Black Stars as they prepare to play in the two World Cup qualifiers

Hearts of Oak captain Fatawu Mohammed and Great Olympics midfielder Samuel Ashie Quaye have been handed a late call up by Ghana coach C.K Akonnor ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars are preparing to host Ethiopia on opening day of the qualifiers on September 3 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium before they travel to Johannesburg to lock horns with South Africa on September 10.

They began their preparations with thirteen players on Monday at the McDan Park in Accra including captain Andre Ayew and his junior brother Jordan Ayew as well as Spezia Calcio forward Emmanuel Gyasi.

Fatawu comes in to replace Slovakia-based Benson Annan who picked up an injury over the weekend while playing for his club while Quaye will replace Tariq Fosu who sought for permission to sort out personal issues.

Reports suggest that that Fosu is pushing his way out of Premier League side Brentford before the transfer window comes to an end on Wednesday.

Fatawu led Hearts to win Ghana Premier League title for the first time in nine seasons. He was also instrumental in the club’s run to win the FA Cup trophy against Ashanti Gold.
