Although, the visitors failed to comply to directives to isolate their players who tested positive to the deadly disease leading to an abrupt end of the game, CAF insists the game must be honoured on Sunday

Confederation of African Football have officially revealed that Asante Kotoko’s return fixture against FC Nouadhibou in the Champions League preliminary round must be played on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium despite confusion marring the original plans.

Senegalese Referee Komlanvi Aklassou called off the game on Saturday afternoon after Nouadhibou FC officials complained of a hatched plot by Kotoko to have two of their first team players omitted from their matchday squad since reports suggested they had been tested positive of COVID-19.

The Mauritanian side insisted that their players were negative to the virus and decided not to honour the game unless the players are allowed to partake in the fixture.

Although, Kotoko protested that they should be given a walk over since it was Nouadhibou who refused to comply by the rules and regulations governing the game, CAF insists the visitors had genuine concerns and has rescheduled the game to Sunday.

Nouadhibou shared the spoils 1-1 with Kotoko in the first leg last weekend in Mauritania and any form of victory by Kotoko will see them through to the next stage.
