The Porcupine Warriors top hierarchy held a meeting with the Ghana Premier League television right owners on Thursday to thrash out several issues
Management members of Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko held a successful meeting with the top hierarchy of Chinese television company StarTimes on Thursday in Accra.
The meeting became necessary after a section of Kotoko fans accused StarTimes of bias way of telecasting their games.
Some of the supporters believe that StarTimes deliberately prevent viewers from watching replays of events that favour their club but they are quick to repeat those that go against them.
Some supporters have even accused StarTimes of conniving with referee Nunoo who officiated the Kumasi derby against King Faisal as he overturned a penalty he awarded Kotoko.
Reports were initially rife that fourth referee Daniel Laryea was prompted by some crew members of StarTimes that he should advise the centre referee to rescind his decision to award Kotoko a penalty since it was a wrong call.
Moreover, Kotoko chief executive officer Nana Yaw Amponsah has constantly argued that it is inappropriate for all clubs to equally share the television money since games involving Kotoko and Hearts are always televised live.
“Management today held a special dialogue meeting with the management of StarTimes, official broadcasters of the #GPL, to discuss matters of mutual concern,” a club statement read.
“Both parties laid bare their concerns and resolved to work harmoniously for the betterment of Ghana football.
“We entreat all our fans to remain calm and be rest assured that Management will always strive for the best interest of our dear club,” the statement added.
Kotoko’s matchday seven fixture against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak which would have been played over the weekend has been postponed since the latter is yet to arrive in the country after participating in the Caf Confederation Cup playoffs.
Hearts were thrashed 4-0 by Algerian side JS Saoura and got eliminated 4-2 on aggregate.
