The Bono East side’s chief has launched a scathing attack on the ministry following the new directives to play the top-flight’s games behind closed doors
Techiman Eleven Wonders chief executive officer Albert Yahaya Commey has hit back at Sports Ministry following the new directives from government ahead of the start of 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.
Following the outbreak of Coronavirus disease, government initially revealed that only one-fourth of the total capacity of each venue will be opened for spectators. However, a new directive on Friday from the Youth and Sports Ministry revealed that all games should be played behind closed doors since the number of cases have escalated in the few days.
“We were told about 25 per cent of spectators will be allowed to the various league centers across the country when the league starts and we have printed out tickets already only to be told at the last minute that the games should be played behind closed doors,” Commey told Happy FM.
“We are not happy about it and the Sports Minister should come again.
“He is taking as for a ride. Let’s be truthful if the COVID-19 cases is going up then the politicians should be blamed because of their campaigns. We are yet to play and if cases keep going up they should ask themselves questions.
“If they want to solve the problem then it is at their political rallies where they don’t adhere to any COVID-19 protocols, they are the problem and shouldn’t shift the blame. The GFA should not go in bed with them on this one,” he added.
Techiman Eleven Wonders will begin the season with an away trip to Accra Sports Stadium to face giants Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
