The right back will not play a part in the Black Stars double header after picking up an injury

Ghana defender Benson Annan has been officially ruled out of the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.

The Black Stars opened their camping on Monday at McDan Park in Accra with only 13 players and head coach C.K Akonnor will now have to plan without defender Annan.

The youngster picked up an injury over the last weekend and after further checks, he has been ruled out of the games since he will not be able to recover on time.

Ghana will open their qualifying campaign with a game against Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on September 3 before they face South Africa three days later in Johannesburg.

“Slovakia-based Benson Annan has been ruled out of the two World Cup qualifiers after picking up an injury over the weekend. We wish Benson a speedy recovery,” an official statement from Ghana FA read on Tuesday.

Reports suggest that Akonnor may fill the void left behind by Annan’s absence with a local player and he could be from Hearts of Oak.
