The Royals had to fight from behind to share the spoils at home against the Bibires on Saturday

Ghana Premier League finally kicked off this weekend when Legon Cities FC drew 1-1 with Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

After eight months without football due to Coronavirus disease, the top-flight returned but with a lot of restrictions as the game was played behind closed doors.

After a slow start in the game, Stephen Amankonah became the first player to score the season’s opener after he converted a spot kick for the visitors by the 22nd minute.

Chelsea came close to doubling their advantage three minutes later when Kofi Owusu connected a pass from a teammate but goalkeeper Fatau Dauda was quick to react and saved the situation.

Legon finally equalised on the 34th minute through their captain Jonah Attuquaye.

After the break, Legon pressured their visitors for the winning goal but were unbalanced upfront as Chelsea neutralised their attacks.

On the 80th minute, Amankonah was handed a chance to score his second and win the day for Chelsea but his shot from a free-kick was deflected to corner kick.

Chelsea will host Asante Kotoko next weekend at the Golden City Park in Berekum while Legon play Great Olympics in a local derby at the Accra Sports Stadium.
